Prayer for the New Year

Give us the kindness to hear with compassion, to offer support, loving comfort, and care

Give us the courage to do what is needed, the wisdom to choose what is right and fair

Give us the vision to see what is possible

Give us the faith in Jesus - the Risen One - that will help pave the way for a present that is hopeful, a future that is peaceful-

Give us a prayerful heart to bring joy to each day

Daily Reflection - Life Without Fear

Free those who through fear of death had been sujbect to slavery all their life.

There are two kinds of death:  Physical and spiritual.  The first is inevitable:  the second is not.  Everyone fears death, but God promises us that if we place our trust in him, he will give us strength to rise above our fears.  His eternal love will be with us to our last hour.

LENT

Lent is the time of preparation for the death of Christ on Good Friday and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday when ashes, made by burning the blessed palms distributed the previous year on Palm Sunday, are placed onto a person's forehead with the Sign of the Cross whilst saying:

"Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel" or "Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return".

Lent is a time for abstinence, prayer, spiritual renewal, repentance and good works

Pope Benedict stated on Ash Wednesday evening:

"The reward for repentance and good works, “is not the admiration of others, but friendship with God and the grace that comes with it, a grace that gives peace and the strength to do good, to love even those who don’t deserve it and to forgive those who have offended us.”

A Day for Prayer for Peace

Today we observe the feast day of Mary, Mother of God, whilst praying for peace in the World.  We pray for peace to the Prince of Peace, who took flesh among us in the fullness of time; each of us can look within and around ourselves and discover a way to peace.  We can learn how the Prince of Peace works his miracle in us, perhaps dramatically, perhaps intimately.

"God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference".
